Purcellville, VA - Loudoun County
Town of Purcellville

Although there were several marches and chases through Purcellville during the Civil War, the town sustained no major damage. But, a series of disastrous fires in the early 1900s, virtually wiped out the business district, depriving the Town of much of its earliest architectural heritage. Despite the fires, from its very beginning, the Town’s dependence upon transportation links to the more populous eastern sections of Northern Virginia has remained strong, and is now more important than ever. Settled by Quakers from Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1764, and by 1874, the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad began service to the community.

Today, the Purcellville train depot has been converted into a welcome center which includes exhibits by the Loudoun Museum and the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority. An old Mill has been converted into a fine dining establishments called Magnolias at the Mill. Another upscale dining experience in Loudoun can be obtained at a unique Italian restaurant called Candelora's in Purcellville and The Loudoun County Country Club has a beautiful golf course just outside Purcellville and often hosts the movers and shakers of the town with various civic group luncheons or dinners.

Corporate home to the Northern Virginia Regional Transit group? on the outskirts of town , visitors will find many antique shops in the historic downtown of Purcellville and one of the oldest hardware stores in the country, Nichols Hardware. Stop by and you'll feel you've stepped back sixty years. If you need repair advice or that difficult to find hardware item, this is the place to go. Just outside Purcellville is Patrick Henry College, a new Christian college dedicated to educating America's young leaders.
